Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are entry-level healthcare providers that specialize in pre-hospital emergencies. Their speed and effectiveness on the scene play a vital role in the lives of the patients they come in contact with.
EMTs respond to emergency calls that range from car accidents, violent traumas, heart attacks, childbirths and falls. EMTs perform basic, noninvasive interventions to stabilize patients and transport them to receive further medical care in places like hospitals.
EMTs often work with ambulance services, fire departments, hospitals and other rescue services.
To become an EMT, you must:
- Be 18 years or older by the time for the NY State certification exams
- Successfully complete the NY state written and practical exams
- Attend a postsecondary EMT program such as ours
Our EMT course consists of 135 hours of lectures and hands-on skills training as well as patient contacts via field internships with local EMS agencies. We give you the strength and skills necessary to confidently respond on the job and pass the NY state exams.
