Child Abuse Pediatrics (CAP) Fellowship

Program Overview

Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital at SUNY Upstate Medical University, in collaboration with the McMahon Ryan Child Advocacy Center, offers an ACGME accredited 3-year fellowship in child abuse pediatrics. This unique training program provides opportunities for a broad clinical experience as well as robust opportunities for research and scholarly activities. Flexibility is offered in Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine and specialized General Pediatrics, as desired. Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital is the major pediatric referral center for a 17 county area covering one-third of New York State. There are up to 20 calls per day to the Onondaga County Child Abuse Hotline. The child abuse fellowship program is among only four other programs in the Northeastern United States.

Services

Fellows are part of the multidisciplinary team at the McMahon Ryan Child Advocacy Center (CAC). The CAC integrates advocacy, prevention, investigation, prosecution, and treatment services for cases involving all aspects of physical abuse, sexual abuse, human trafficking, child medical abuse, medical or other types of neglect, and child maltreatment. The CAC coordinates Onondaga County's Child Fatality Review Team.
