Dr. Ramesh Sachdeva

Dr. Ramesh Sachdeva, Senior Vice President of Strategic Affairs

As senior vice president for strategic affairs, Sachdeva directs the development and implementation of an institution-wide strategic plan. He works closely with clinical and academic leaders across the university to identify strategic priorities to achieve clinical integration by leveraging quality and outcomes science; and support the development of big data strategy aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of Upstate’s education, research and clinical care missions. A major responsibility is the development and implementation of a broad strategy to achieve population health targets in Central New York.

Sachdeva is a practicing physician in the areas of pediatric critical care and sleep medicine; with an interest in neurocritical care. He joined Upstate’s pediatric faculty to continue his clinical activities. Among his notable accomplishments, Sachdeva has been the principal investigator for the Pediatric Measurement Center of Excellence, Agency for Health Care Research and Quality, consisting of a consortium of seven medical colleges and national organizations.

Sachdeva earned his medical degree from the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India, (1984); completed a residency in pediatrics at Wayne Oakland Child and Adolescent Medicine Program and a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine and additional training in sleep medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He is certified in pediatric critical care and sleep medicine from the American Board of Pediatrics, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Critical Care Medicine.

In addition to his medical professional training, Sachdeva holds a JD cum laude from Marquette University Law School (2003), an MBA from University of Houston-Clear Lake (1997), and a PhD in epidemiology with a focus of health policy, management and biometry from the University of Texas, School of Public Health (1997). He has also completed a second doctorate in business administration from the United Kingdom.

Before joining Upstate, Sachdeva was professor of pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin and a physician at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Additionally, Sachdeva served in numerous capacities for the American Academy of Pediatrics and was appointed as associate executive director in 2012 through 2016.

Renae Rokicki

Renae Rokicki, Project and Strategic Planning Administrator

Renae Rokicki, M. Ed., joined the Office of the President in 2012 as the Project and Strategic Planning Administrator where she is responsible for strategic planning and cross-representational projects involving the clinical, research, and academic missions across campus.  As such she was responsible for management of Upstate’s prior strategic plan and is highly involved in the current Balanced Scorecard strategic planning and management initiative.  Renae additionally provides administrative coordination of institutional activities such as the Upstate Employee and Student Emergency Fund, the Think Green Sustainability efforts, and serves as a faculty member and President’s Liaison to the Upstate Leadership Academy. 

 On behalf of Upstate, Renae is active in the community.  For the Central and Western American Red Cross, Renae is an Executive Board of Directors member.  She is Chairperson for the Board Development Committee and has served as the Chair of the Real Heroes Breakfast Committee for the past three years.  Renae is a graduate of Leadership Greater Syracuse - Class of 2014 – and began as an LGS Board of Directors member in 2016.

Prior to her current role, Renae joined Upstate Medical University in 2005 within the department of Organizational Training and Development (OTD) and was involved in the non-clinical personal and professional training and development of Upstate staff.   Previously, Renae spent much of her career in the human services field, with an emphasis in caring for the special need’s population and teaching those who cared for them. 

Renae earned her Master’s Degree in Adult Education from Elmira College in 2008 and two Advanced Graduate Certificates in Human Resources Development and Training of Trainers.  She also holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Gender Studies from Utica College of Syracuse University in 1998.

Denise Feeley, Executive Assistant

Denise Feeley has provided high-level executive administrative assistance to leaders at multiple Syracuse healthcare facilities. Prior to joining the Office of Strategic Affairs in September 2016, she provided executive administrative assistance to the Chief Financial Officer for Community General Hospital and most recently in Ambulatory Services at SUNY Upstate Medical University’s Community Campus. Denise is earning her Bachelor of Profession Studies in Creative Leadership Degree at Syracuse University.
